This is a smallholder coffee where semi-processed green beans are purchased from regional smallholders. They harvest, pulp, wash, and partially dry the coffee themselves before transporting down to the estate where wet and dry processing is completed. We used to buy outside cherry for this, but because the roads are so bad, it would often take over a day to get to the mill. Many smallholders lost too much cherry to ferment and we ended up with botched batches of coffee tainted by ferment. By partially processing themselves, the smallholders are able to save most of their crop and we have a much better and more consistent smallholder offering. We also helped provide handmills to these smallholders so they could pulp the coffee themselves.
