Producer: John Schippers
Farm name: San Luis El Volcancito
Region: Santa Rosa
Variety: Yellow Icatú
Nestled in between the Guatemalan mountains, Finca San Luis El Volcancito resides in Pueblo Nuevo Viñas, in the region of Santa Rosa. The farm’s origins date back to 1881, with the Schippers family buying the land in 1998. The farm boasts extremely fertile volcanic soil, thanks to the little volcano (volcancito) that sits on the land. In fact, this San Isidro lot is the first to be cropped from the volcano. The yellow icatú from this lot is a product of the crossing of the robusta and bourbon varieties, which results in plants with high production yields and strong disease resistance.
John Schippers is a fourth-generation coffee farmer, and spent the majority of his childhood kicking a soccer ball or running amongst coffee plants. His love for sports and coffee trickled down to his two daughters, Paulina and Daniela. The two girls came to the US under scholarship to play D1 college tennis. After college, Paulina decided to share the family legacy with coffee roasters by founding Dos Niñas Coffee Importers in 2016. The family’s mission is to provide you with the highest quality cup of coffee possible, while offering complete traceability every step of the way. From seed to cup, from our family to yours, we hope that we can bring a piece of the farm to you and make you feel at home.
